Officers were called to N. College Street and B Street around 9:10 p.m. on Sunday, May 19 where a white pickup truck had driven around the round-about and crashed into a ditch, police said in a release.
The vehicle then backed up and drove north up over the sidewalk, hitting several cones and driving on the sidewalk. The truck was ultimately found stopped at the stop sign on N. College Street at G Street, and the driver identified as a 14-year-old boy, police said.
The front passenger was identified as Jonathan Storms, who was drunk and saying he was teaching a family member to drive, authorities said. Storms smelled like alcohol, was unsteady on his feet, and had slurred speech.
A ride to pick up Storms arrived on scene and he was told to leave his vehicle parked and get it the next day, when he was no longer intoxicated, police said. Approximately 10 minutes after leaving, Storms appeared back on scene and attempted to get in his car, according to officials.
He was again confronted and told to call his ride or walk home. Storms walked a half a block down the road before walking into the middle of the street and dancing in the roadway, placing himself at risk of being struck, police said.
Storms was then placed under arrest for public drunkenness due to being a threat to himself and was taken to Cumberland County Prison. He was charged with endangering the welfare of children, corruption of minors, public drunkenness, permitting unlicensed driver.
A preliminary hearing will be scheduled at MDJ Birbeck's Office.
